Tesla Cybertruck: here it is, Tesla's electric pickup

The presentation of Tesla's long-awaited Cybertruck gave rise to quite a spectacle and several twists on Thursday night in Los Angeles.

Is this really "the biggest revolution in the world of transport and design"? It’s debatable. "A truck unlike any other made for 100 years"? Certainly!

In front of an already conquered crowd, the CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, proceeded to the unveiling of the Cybertruck and, after the initial shock caused by its extremely futuristic design, we were finally able to discover what this electric truck is made of and especially what it is actually capable.

5.9 meters long, the Cybertruck has six seats and has an ultra-resistant stainless steel body (to demonstrate this, the door was subjected to sledgehammer and no marks appeared). It relies on adaptive air suspension as standard, as Musk considers it absolutely vital that such a truck can adjust to the loads to be transported and the terrain to be traversed.

The cargo box is 6.5 feet long and has a payload of 3,500 pounds. It includes a telescoping tailgate which came in handy for mounting the electric mountain bike also unveiled by Tesla during the evening. As for the official maximum cargo capacity, it stands at 14,000 pounds. Nothing like the promised 300,000 pounds (expected!), But it's more than any other truck in the class.

In fact, a highlight of the unveiling was a short video showing a tug of war between a Ford F-150 and the Cybertruck, obviously won by the latter.

Tesla also promised that his electric truck would be faster than a Porsche 911 and this was proven in another video that was shown on the screen behind the stage. Officially, it accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (96 km / h) in 2.9 seconds!

Three different configurations are offered: a single engine (4x2), two engines (4x4) and three engines (4x4), their autonomy being respectively of 400, 480 and - beware - 800 kilometers. They can also be recharged at fast terminals of up to 250 kilowatts or more.

Tesla's Autopilot semi-autonomous driving system is included as standard.

Finally, Tesla caused the delirium by posting the base price of its Cybertruck. Musk had already spoken of less than US $ 50,000, but it ended up costing $ 39,900. The most efficient version will require $ 69,900. Reservations are already being accepted and deliveries are expected to start towards the end of 2021.
