Tesla Cybertruck (2021): The first stealth pickup

Drawn to the ruler

But before listing everything the Cybertruck is capable of, let's dwell on the style that boils down to one word: angular. Designers clearly master straight lines. It's simplistic, like the other models in the range, but in a spirit more reminiscent of the universe of "Terminator" or "Mad Max". It does not seem to belong to the Tesla brand anymore, as its style is no longer homogeneous with the rest of the Californian range. The logo has even disappeared. On closer inspection, the Cybertruck is more of a concept car (where are the exterior mirrors or the cameras?).

“The pickups have been the same for a hundred years. We need something different, ”says Elon Musk, the iconoclast boss of Tesla. Is. All tastes are, of course, in nature, but it is possible to do different without making a tank ... Moreover, among the avowed inspirations of Tesla, are two buildings of the American army: the USS Zumwalt, and the F-117 Nighthawk. On the automotive side, these taut lines are reminiscent of the days of the Lancia Stratos or Lotus Esprit (that of James Bond appears furtively on the screen during the presentation). Besides its astonishing style, the machine imposes some by its dimensions: 5.89 m long, 2.03 m wide, 1.91 m high. For the backpacker side, the machine is said to be able to go everywhere thanks to its angles of attack and flight respectively of 35 ° and 26 °.

Ultra basic

Tesla produced only one image of the interior of his pickup. It shows an atmosphere taking up the angular spirit of the bodywork, to which is added the sobriety characteristic of Tesla: a steering wheel (racing type) and a touch screen (17 inches) attached to a dashboard that is similar to a industrial concrete block. Hopefully, other visuals to come will allow us to know a little more ... A sixth passenger can also be seated on board, thanks to the front central seat.

Ready for any test ... or almost

Reading the technical sheet is at least as impressive as the aesthetics of the machine. The Cybertruck has a body made of cold-rolled stainless steel, "the same steel as SpaceX's rocket," says the boss. Tesla prides himself on using the most durable and even had fun proving it during the presentation by slamming the door. It would even withstand an impact from a 9mm bullet fired 10m away.
