Here's why Tesla can't sell its Cybertruck in Europe

The Tesla Cybertruck is currently illegal in Europe because it is found not to comply with the safety standards in force on the continent. The vehicle is considered dangerous for pedestrians.

Tesla lifted the veil on the Cybertruck a month ago, revealing a surprisingly designed pickup that's dividing the brand's community of followers. By definition, this new vehicle is particularly intended for the American market, where pickups are very popular with the population. In 2019, the segment reported a 17.5% sales increase in the United States. But if the automaker wanted to launch its model across borders, it wouldn't be able to do so just yet.

Tesla Cybertruck banned in Europe as it is

Tesla's Cybertruck is considered illegal in Europe because it does not meet current safety standards. On the European continent, the requirements of organizations are not the same and require the involvement of several companies and public services — in addition to the brand. Currently, the vehicle would not pass the tests that would allow it to be marketed in Europe and France, assures German media Automobilwoche.

The Tesla Cybertruck will therefore have to undergo major modifications if the company wants it to travel these roads one day. For now, the futuristic-designed pickup is considered dangerous for pedestrian safety.

As the specialist outlet indicates, several changes would have to be made before the homologation of Tesla's pickup could be authorized. The front end of the Cybertruck should therefore no longer be "rigid and homogeneous", while the bumper and hood should be able to "absorb energy to protect pedestrians". In effect, this also means that the vehicle's body may be able to remain as it is, except that the impact would reoccur on the pedestrian or the car in front.

Recall that Tesla still has time to consider a potential marketing of the Cybertruck outside the USA, because the pickup will not arrive on the American market before the end of the year 2021, against 2022 for the most powerful version of the vehicle.
