Will Tesla's Cybertruck be smaller in Europe?

Elon Musk made it clear that the measurements of the European version of the Tesla Cybertruck could be revised downwards. This would be logical, given the constraints of the market.

Since its formalization at the end of last year, the Tesla Cybertruck has never stopp

ed talking about it. It must be admitted that its design is intriguing, because of its futuristic lines but also its immense size. Will its dimensions be adapted to European markets? At first glance, this would be relevant, since the prototype has features designed for the United States, where the pickup segment is the most popular.

In response to one Internet user wondering, Elon Musk, as usual, answered in the affirmative. He believes that a smaller European version of the Cybertruck is "very likely" to "eventually" exist. It should also undergo some stylistic changes to meet European standards. They could have an impact on performance.

THE CYBERTRUCK IS TOO BIG FOR EUROPE

In December 2019, in Automobilwoche columns, Stefan Teller, a specialist in automotive standards in Europe, indicated that the Cybertruck was, in its current form, illegal. Thus, the 100% electric pickup would not be able to absorb enough kinetic energy to protect pedestrians (because of its bumper and its angular hood).

Regarding size, we can remember that European roads are not those of the United States: they are narrower. And no one imagines driving a Cybertruck in the heart of downtown Paris at rush hour, without fear of collisions with other cars parked in the designated locations. At Uncle Sam, the vehicle should keep that massive look, as Elon Musk said last May: “We reviewed the design [of the Cybertruck] with Franz [in charge of design] last night. Even a 3% reduction would make a car too small. It will be more or less the same size [compared to the prototype]. As it stands, the Cybertruck would be 7 meters long, 2.4 meters wide and 2.3 meters high.
